At 45, Patty Montagno found herself single not by preference, but by a culture that seemed to leave faith-filled Catholics behind in the modern dating scene. Tired of suggestions to compromise or just “settle,” she refused to give up on her values while seeking genuine love. As dating apps and casual relationships felt out of step with her beliefs, Patty noticed that few resources actually helped Catholics connect meaningfully. She decided to change that. Patty launched Cana Connections, a grassroots network uniting like-minded singles through in-person events and personalized matchmaking. While plenty of Catholic women attended, the search for equally committed, single Catholic men proved more daunting. Still, marriages began to bloom from her efforts. The University of San Diego, a Catholic institution, recently permitted an LGBTQ+ drag Mass on campus, sparking controversy among Catholic leaders.
